Community Book Initiative
Putting books into the hands of those who need them most
Pages for People collects donated books in the San Jose / Bay Area and distributes them directly to children and communities with limited access to reading, locally and at children's homes in India.

Pages for People is a community initiative founded by Sarayu Bhavaraju, dedicated to making books accessible to everyone. We collect book donations in the Bay Area and share them with children and communities who have limited access to reading, locally and in India.
From your bookshelf to someone who needs it
Step 1
Book Donations
Community members, families, and school libraries donate gently used books they no longer need. We accept children's books, young adult and adult fiction, nonfiction, and educational materials.
Step 2
Sorting & Quality Check
Donated books are sorted by age group and reading level, and checked to make sure they're in good, readable condition before they go out.
Step 3
Direct Distribution
Books go directly to children and communities, at girls' homes and orphanages in India, and through community partners in the Bay Area. We read with the children, not just drop off boxes.

Access to books changes outcomes
Research consistently shows that children with even a small number of books at home are more likely to stay in school and reach higher levels of education. For children in under-resourced communities, whether in the U.S. or abroad, a single book can be the start of something much bigger.

You can help us by
Donate Books
Your gently used books (children's, young adult, adult, or educational) can find a new reader. We coordinate pickups and drop-offs in the Bay Area.
Volunteer With Us
Help with sorting, pickups, outreach, or event support. No experience needed, just some time and an interest in putting books where they're needed.
Every book finds a reader. Your shelf space can become someone else's next chapter. Donate books, spread the word, or volunteer.
